Victor was born October 26, 1965 to Victor Sr. & Mary Thunderchild, in Turtleford, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest boy in a family of 13 and felt blessed to have grown up in a family surrounded by his brothers and sisters. Victor continued to add to his family, starting from the day he met Vi, then her family, and meeting friends who became extended family.
He grew up on the Thunderchild reserve where he was involved in a number of sports and this love of sport was imbedded in him from his early years. Not only was he a team player but he was also an excellent coach. He coached both on the field and in the classroom. He was an awesome dad, excellent husband, proud grandfather, great co-worker and the best friend to those who were blessed to have crossed paths with him.
Victor was a Teacher with a Master’s in Education, he taught for 29 years at Carlton Comprehensive High School. His heart was pure and it reflected in the eyes of the students, those that were lucky enough to have him as a teacher, mentor and friend. His life was rooted deeply in tradition, this touched the lives of many students, he encouraged each one to take pride in their culture, language, heritage and to go out into the world to be the best that they could be. We knew he was one of the best teachers and the citizens of Prince Albert recognized it as he was voted The Best Teacher In The City for two consecutive years. Victor’s love of teaching and learning was greatly enhanced throughout his travels, some trips were done for educational purposes and others were strictly for pleasure. If you were fortunate enough to have him as a travel companion then you knew that you were in good hands.
We lost Victor in the early hours of April 17th, 2021. His passing will leave a big hole in our lives and in our hearts. Victor was a passionate, caring, compassionate, humorous, loving man who shared his passion for life with everyone.
