Rose Chief Obituary

Rosie Chief (nee: Lewis) was born in Witchekan, Saskatchewan on January 6, 1948.  She was the 5th oldest of Pierre and Delphina Lewis (nee: Bear).  Rosie was a caregiver all her life, right from her childhood.  She lived in Onion Lake most of her life, minus the year they spent in Penticton and Oliver, B.C.  It was there that she made lifelong friends, Mary and Ed Louie, and the Chapman's.  She had really strong beliefs, and always lived by ceremony.  Rosie had great respect for all denominations.  She was a Jill-of-all-trades, she loved cooking for family and friends, beading, sewing, canning, and gathering medicine.  She had a heart of GOLD, she loved not only her immediate family, she also loved her maternal and paternal family, and took her role as oldest sister to heart.  She cherished her family and friends.  Rosie and Paul also took it upon themselves to watch and support Paul's late siblings' children.  She raised many children that were not her own.  Rosie's phone was constantly ringing, and she made it a point to answer every call.  She was bold, and was unafraid to speak her mind.  She was a knowledge keeper.  Rosie was a very cultural person, she lived a divine existence and exemplified her path through the teachings of natural law.   Rosie lived a harmonious ceremonial life, she gave thanks for the "tiniest things" in life.  Her spiritual healer, Joseph Poirer, spoke to her and she said "Tell the family to stay together."
This is Rosie's wish: keep close and keep family strong.
Last, but surely not the least...Rosie's favorite brother-in-law was Walter Pahtayken, however, she babied Kerry Stanley the most.
Rose is predeceased by: her paternal grandparents, Alex (1918) and Margaret Lewis; her maternal grandparents, Frizzley and Mary Bear; her father, Pierre Lewis (1987); her mother, Delphina Lewis (1986); her siblings, Gilbert Lewis (1969), Roy Lewis (1985), Harvey Lewis and an infant sister.
She is survived by: her loving husband, Paul; her children, Paula (Evan), Rita, Jeff (Burton), Darin, Colleen, Trina (Jason), Val, Janet (Dale), Janice and Shawn (Sunora); her 23 grandchildren; her 17 great grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Louie (Ed), Ronnie Lewis (Betty), Austin Mountain, Andrew Lewis (Matilda), Henry Lewis (Arlene), Rema Pahtayken (Walter), Donald Lewis, Ruby Thomas (Lawrence), Doris Carter (Raymond) and Lydia Lewis-Stanley (Kerry).
