Robert (Bob) Henry Hougham was born in Lloydminster, on February 19, 1926 to Kenneth Whitney and Vera May (Guy) Hougham.
Bob attended Normal School directly after High School graduation, where he met his lifelong friend, Ron Thompson. He taught at North Bend, then Rock Bottom School and it was at this time that he met the love of his life, Joyce Mills. They were married on July 2, 1948. Bob’s true calling was ranching so he gave up teaching after 2 years. Bob and Joyce lived and worked in the North Bend District for 6 years until 1954, when they purchased the Kern place and moved across the river with their 4 oldest children. It was here that they raised 8 children and 2 foster children, and the ranch still runs under Bob’s watchful eye and the care of Bob’s children and grandchildren.
In 1983, Bob took on a new challenge and went to work in Paradise Hill as the Village Clerk until 1994. This new path gave him an opportunity to participate on multiple community organizations and boards, where his genuine interest in people and community left a lasting impact.
In 1990, Bob and Joyce built the Eagle’s Nest, their retirement home, on the river bank where Bob spent countless hours enjoying the view out his kitchen window.
Bob is predeceased by: his daughter, Patsy; his grandson, Patrick; his parents; his brothers, little John and Kenneth; and his sister, Edith.
Bob leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife and best friend of 70 years, Anna Joyce; his children, John, Jerry & Maxine, Peggy & Brian Cockell, Linda & Don Amundrud, Suzanne & Doug Phipps, Tom and Marion, Ken and Judy, Elaine Waciston, and Dorothy Waciston; 29 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Sarah; and 2 brothers, Winston and Tom.
