Lillian (Leokadia) Wourms was born in Poland on October 24, 1927. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and three brothers at the age of two. Despite the cold Saskatchewan winters, the love in their small home radiated warmth for miles, prompting Lillian to a life of nurturing and caring for others. She married Lambert Wourms on September 28, 1949 and together, they farmed in the St.Walburg area for over seventy years, raising a family of ten children. Despite running a full house, Lillian always made time for extended family, friends and neighbours. She could often be found sitting at the kitchen table, warm cup of tea in hand, listening to the stories of those passing through the farmyard. Lillian was tenacious, hard-working and organized. Between managing the lives of her children and husband, she was involved with the CWL, 4-H, and countless other community organizations. She was a keen seamstress, notably sewing costumes for the family band, Country Mist, and creating beautiful quilts for her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener with ample knowledge on foraging; wild blueberries being her favourite to find. Whether it was pinching children’s cheeks or perogies, her gentle hands were always there, lifting others up and crafting a life abundant with love.
“Lillian was a wonderful, hard-working woman. I was lucky to have her for 72 years. Everyone loved her but no one loved her more than I.”
