Elma passed away peacefully with family at the St. Walburg Health Complex, July 27, 2023, at the age of 95. Elma was born on February 16, 1928 to Eleanor and Herbert Sickler, in Shiffield, England, the youngest of three children. The family moved to Canada in 1929 and settled in the Spruce Lake, SK area. Elma married Edgar Mork in August of 1945 and they had 2 daughters, Vivien and Linda. This grew to include 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Edgar passed away in 1971.
In June of 1974 she married William Schlekewy. Together they enjoyed many years of socializing, dancing, travelling, and family time with grandchildren. They loved to attend music festivals, bus tours, and trips to the lake for a wiener roast. Most of Elma’s years were spent on the farm, as well as working for the Post Office in Spruce Lake and 21 years for the CIBC in St. Walburg, retiring in 1988. She retired from working off the farm but then took up crafting and attended many a craft fair selling her creations. Elma saw a lot of changes in her life, from the horse and buggy days to face timing with family just last week. Her lifelong passions were curling, dancing, bowling, gardening, crocheting, knitting and crafting.
Elma was predeceased by her parents Eleanor and Herbert Sickler. Her sister, Ella and husband Ernie Hillier and their daughter Doreen Rindt. Her brother Jack Sickler and daughter Tonia McMann. Husband Edgar Mork and husband William Schlekewy. Son-in-law Arnold Champagne and grandson Todd Champagne.
Elma is survived by:
Daughter Vivien Champagne. Grandchildren: Tracey Champagne (Walter), Tim (Darlene) Champagne and Anita Champagne (Michael). Great-grandchildren: Dover (Chad) Kovlaske, Teigan Wollersheim (Taylor), Dustin Champagne, Jamie Dang, Jaxon Champagne and great-great-granddaughter – Kiera Kovlaske.
Daughter Linda Rau. Grandchildren: Cindy (Darren) Humphrey, Pamela (Robert) Gaehring, Ken (Caryn) Zilka. Great-grandchildren: Kolton Humphrey, Brady Humphrey (Courtney), Owen Gaehring (Brandy), Morgan Gaehring, Riley Zilka and Rory Zilka.
Nephew Ron and Cindy Schlekewy and their family, along with many other nephews and nieces.
