Edith Lorenz Obituary

Edith Annie Lorenz was the only child born to Herbert (Henry) and Violet Gurney on July 5, 1928 in Lashburn, SK and passed away on April 23, 2022 at the Pine Island Lodge in Maidstone, SK at the age of 93. Mom loved horses and horseback riding, which would be like the kids today with their motorized toys. In the early 50's mom met our father, Emil Lorenz, and in October of 1954 they were married.  They farmed in the Neilburg district until 1959 and during that time John, Jim and Wayne were born. They moved to Lashburn where dad took over a dreying business and Louise, Dale and Reg were born.  Mom was a stay at home mom who would paint, clean, and milk cows part time to make some extra money.  She loved gardening, flowers, both in her house and in the yard, which to this day her children have some of her flowers growing in their back yards. John remembers as a child mom having horse statues, painted pictures and crocheted pictures around the house. Mom loved doing crafts, crocheting, paint by numbers, acrylic painting, sewing, rugs, quilts and blankets which I think a lot of us are lucky enough to have all of these things. She also loved photography. We cannot forget her famous potato donuts and all of the kids on the block would show up on donut day.  In 1979, they moved to Loon Lake to retire and they were both involved in many groups while living there.  It was when they retired that they took the time to travel, visit their children, go to auctions, visit friends and take lots of pictures.  If you went to visit for a family function, before you left we were all lined up for sibling pictures, grandchildren pictures and pictures with dad.  Mom was so happy taking her pictures, if you ever saw an empty chair in any group pictures you knew that it was moms because she was always behind the camera. In 1994, dad passed away and in 1995 mom moved to Lashburn.  There she reconnected with old and new friends.  She moved in 2015 to Maidstone to the Pine Island Lodge where she remained until her passing.
She was predeceased by: her husband, Emil;  her parents, Herbert (Henry) and Voilet Gurney; her son, Dale Lorenz; and her granddaughter, Amie Gray Carrol.
Edith is survived by:  her children, John (Marilyn)Lorenz, Jim (Penny) Lorenz, Wayne (June) Lorenz, Louise (Herman) Gray, and Reg (Susan) Lorenz; 12 Grandchildren and 23 Great-Grandchildren.

"I remember having to line up for all of the pictures and not being happy about it, but it made mom happy.  After going through a box of pictures sorting them out I realized mom was our amateur historian and some of those pictures brought back good memories. Mom/Grandma hugs were the best and she gave a good hug. I wish I could have one of those now and not let go.  Love you Mom."
  Love, John.
