Arthur Swain Obituary

Arthur Clifford Swain was born December 3, 1945 in Olds, AB., to Isador (Cantell) Quintal of Big Bay, AB., and Josephine Quinn of Buffalo Lake, AB.  He passed away February 1, 2021 at Lloydminster Hospital.

In the early years, Art lived in Sundry, AB., with his dad, Isador Quintal.  At seven years old, he was given up to Grouard Residential School (in accordance with the Canadian Constitution) where he would live for nine years.  When he came of age, he was placed in the foster care system for two years in St. Paul, AB.  When he turned 18, he and his brother, Henry (Crow) hiked to Prince George where he would be reconnected with his mother, Josephine, and some of his siblings.  In 1972, Art reunited with his father, and they spent the next six years hunting and trapping, living a traditional Indigenous life.  Art adored all of his siblings and his parents.  Art met Sara in 1990, and they would spend the next 32 years making a foundation built on love, prayers, and family.  He loved all of Sara's family too, her siblings and their children.  He and Sara's home was a safe place for everyone, to come have a coffee, have a cry and figure out life.  He loved his father-in-law, Big Lou, very much.  He always expressed that he loved and missed him.  Art was a very boisterous man, and was very good at getting his point across.  He was sharp with his tongue when he spoke with you, although he always meant what he said with love.  Art loved all of his children, and his grandchildren especially.  He would step up and be the father to the fatherless.  Art suffered the last few months of his life, he struggled with COPD and tried very hard for his wife and family to stay here.  Art's family is at ease knowing he is no longer suffering.  Art will be dearly missed by all those who knew him, family, relatives and friends.

Art is predeceased by: his parents, Isador (Cantell) Quintal (1977), and Josephine Quinn (1991); his siblings, Ellia (Quinn) Suvee (2000), Margret (Margo) (2007), Annie Desjarlais (November 27, 2007), Clara Quinn (2008), Henry (Crow) Quinn (2010), Sara Quinn (2014), Lawrence Quinn (2018), Pete Quinn (2019),  Mike (Muggler), Jim, Joe, and Eugene; and his son, Jason (2009).

He leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife of 32 years, Sara Harper; their five children, Connie (Doug), Wahlea (Sheldon), Kristi, Lesley (Brittany), and Kara (Rustin); Marcel (Cheryl) Gagnon, Brenda (Hardol) Cardinal, Iris Derocher, Tina Derocher, Dana (Kevin) Scanie; and grandchildren that he raised, Kyle, Hayley, Kiefer, Faylene, Athena, Joanne, Farron, and Shane; his siblings, Pat Quintal, Don (Jackie) Swain, Frank, Sheila, Leonard, Bertha, and Lena; and numerous nieces, nephews, and abundant grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
