Maggie Cook Obituary

Maggie Harriette Cook (nee Kanipitew) was born on December 20, 1928, in Onion Lake ,SK, the second of eight siblings. She married Edwin Cook in Onion Lake and they were blessed with thirteen children. Maggie was a kind-hearted woman who was always ready when called upon, she enjoyed being around family and there was never a time that she would be alone.  She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and capans unconditionally.  Mom's favourite passtime was playing cards with family and her summers consisted of travelling  to powwows and she also travelled to Lac St. Ann. She also dearly enjoyed stick games which was her way of meeting up with family and making new friends. Mom was well known to so many in the hand game family and during her many travels she adopted so many into her family which proved she had a heart of "'Gold".  Maggie sat on numerous committees in our community which included the Elders Advisory, Native Justice, and Treaty Governance. She took pride in her cultural beliefs and attended all of the ceremonies within the community and surrounding areas (sweats, chicken dances, sundances).   Mom, Kokum, Chapan are all the names she would hear and it always made her smile.
She is predeceased by:  her husband, Edwin Cook (2001); her daughter, Marlene Cook (2004); her grandchildren, Emil Belly Jr. (2000), Boyd Weeseekase Jr. (1995), Quincy Chief (1999), Gladys Wolfe (1996), and Sandy Chief (2007); her great-great grandchild, Chloe Whitstone (2016); her brothers, Harry Masson, Joe Masson, Wilfred Masson, and Frank Masson; and her sisters, Agnes Stanley, Clara Crookedneck, and Dora Masson.
Maggie is survived by: her  children, Verna, Barbara (Daniel), Noel (Dorothy), Linda (Henry), Judy, Pauline, Clifford, Pearl, Delma, Ruby (Romeo), Howard, and Raymond (Ellie); her adpoted children, Bill Wapass (Theresa), Wilson Thomas, Sharon Jimmy (Albert), Christopher Meesto (Mildred), Irene Scanie, Lavern Faithful, Laura Morin, Ivan Ladoucer, Annabelle Quinney (Rolland), and Rodney Bear; her 96 grandchildren; her 239 great-grandchildren; her 69 great-great grandchildren; her 2 great-great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Sara Masson.
