Lydia Kutschker was born on October 28, 1945 in Tupper Creek, BC. She was the seventh of ten children born to Alois and Ida Kutschker.
On June 24, 1967, she married Bill Zilka in Dawson Creek, BC. They settled on the farm bought from his aunt and uncle in Makwa, SK. They had two children, Thomas (1968) and Kimberly (1969).

She was predeceased by: her loving husband, Bill; her parents, Alois and Ida Kutschker; and six of her siblings.
