Joe Allen Robert Naistus

April 11, 1931 ~ November 25, 2018 (age 87)

Joe Allen Robert Naistus was born on April 11, 1931.  He grew up in Kehewin ,AB, until he was 3 years of age and then he moved to Onion Lake, SK, where he was in residential school for 4 years.  At an early age, he started working odd jobs moving in farms and surrounding areas.  One of his jobs was too look for water using a crow bar, and he also did landscaping.
He met mom (Rema Chief) in his early 20’s.  Mom and dad got married at a very young age.  They married in 1955 at the Anglican church in Onion Lake with 2 other couples, Norman/Alvina Chief and Ivan/Edna MacDonald, at A.C.C.  They had to share a copper ring which was made by one of the grooms because they did not have any rings to use. They kept the copper ring, passing it between the three couples.
Dad was a hard worker always tried to provide for the family.  He always had the older boys working with him and taught them how to work side by side, while the younger kids also had chores to do at home.  The older boys had to go with dad to the bush to cut down trees to make posts while the younger kids were left to peel and soak the trees.  They also had to do bailing while working together.  Dad packed up all of us kids to work in the farms. He taught the kids how to have good work ethics.
