In Loving Memory of (Effie Lorraine) Dee Fines

Effie Lorraine was born April 8, 1938 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, and was the eldest of 4 children to Sidney and Alice Crawford.  Unable to pronounce her name “Effie” she referred to herself as Dee Dee, and the name stuck as Dee.

Dee grew up in the Mont Nebo area, with her siblings Marilyn, Glen and Ronald, and I must say that there have been many a story of their childhood years.

She often spoke of her first job at La Ronge, Saskatchewan where she worked in a restaurant.  Dee always enjoyed cooking and cleaning so it was natural for her to take a position on the Fines farm as an assistant cook. There she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Harry Denton.  Dad idolized Mom and they experienced a full life together.  They were wed January 9th, 1957. Mom often spoke of how cold it was that day and they almost cancelled due to the weather.  Peggy Lee was born October 9th, 1957; with Tammy Lynn to follow October 11th, 1960.

Dee and Harry were blessed with seven grandchildren; Peggy wed Phillip Bazley and they had two daughters, Tera Lorraine and Raelene Toni.  Tammy had twin daughters, Amanda Marie and Gayla Lynn, then Leanne Lee and Glen Curtis.

They were blessed with 13 great-children; Tera wed Travis Johnson and had three boys, Korbin, Brady and Caden.  Raelene wed Ian Dyke and had one boy and two girls; Landon, Kennedy and Chloe.

Tammy’s children wed; Gayla Lynn blessed the family with one daughter and two boys, Abby, Rylan and Cody.  Amanda wed Kevin Bischler they had one boy and one daughter, Ian and Mackenzie.  Leanne wed Shane Maze and they have two boys, Lucas and Colby.

Anyone who has met Dee says that she was a character and there was always laughter.  After Harry’s passing, she moved into Canwood and then to Maidstone to be closer to Peggy and Tammy.  The staff all agreed that she was a breath of fresh air and offered much laughter and joy to the rest of the residents.

The family will lay Dee beside her loving husband, Harry,  in the spring at the Mont Nebo St. Luke’s Anglican cemetery.
